Some minor works have begun at the Tynemouth Library site to demolish the wall to the rear and collect soil samples necessaryfor the relocation of the electrical substation.
It will still take around 6 months for the electrical components for the new substation to be ready. Following this construction of that new small structure will commence at the rear.
The new library itself will require demolition of the old main building and the old substation, then construction of a new block with library and building society on the ground floor and apartments above. We appreciate that a construction project on this scale will have implications for those who live or run businesses nearby, and we’ll be monitoring plans closely.
In the meantime there is a small stock of books available for free loan held at Holy Saviours Church.
