For Mouth of The Tyne this year Julie & Tom dressed up as “busy bees” an took part in the Saturday morning’s children’s parade, joined by Mayor Karen Clark (yes we do look a bit ridiculous in particular next to Karen who doesn’t).
There’s a huge amount of work goes into the festival each year and we appreciate for some residents it’s a source of disruption as well as something to enjoy.
This year the wind and atmospheric conditions meant that Thursday, Friday and Saturday the sound from The Priory travelled a lot further than usual with some comments coming in to us from several miles away. That eased on the Sunday when the weather changed.
Like a lot of local people we enjoyed the music from “the cheap seats” and a picnic up above King Edwards Bay.
Each year there’s lessons to learn on how the festival operates and we are already talking to officers about this. If there’s anything which you think could be done better then please let us know (or equally if you just want to congratulate the organisers on a job well done).
Our local schools like KPS and Monkhouse don’t get involved in the childrens parade as it’s schools closer to Whitley Bay that make the costumes as part of their involvement with the Whitley Bay Carnival with Salto Arts. Maybe we should try and change this next year and find a way of getting them involved?
